Match report vs Whittle Hall Athletic

Linnets were captained by Luca today and started the game well with Oscar charging forward and winning a free kick on the edge of the area. Oscar dusted himself down to expertly curl his shot over the wall and in off the bar for a stunning opening goal - the keeper had no chance!

Logan showed a cool head after the Whittle keeper had made a fantastic penalty save, to calmly place the rebound into the bottom corner. Linnets added another soon after with Anthony hitting a great strike into the bottom corner. Logan grabbed two more well taken goals to mark his hat-trick, with his last goal coming after a brilliant run by Harry who cheekily nutmegged his marker before crossing for Logan to finish.

Whittle then showed their attacking skills with a good goal of their own - which left Rio with no chance. Louis made a fantastic tackle to deny a goalscoring chance and played the ball up to Anthony who cleverly knocked it around the last defender before finding the top corner with a great goal to end the first half.

Linnets made a few tweaks in formation for the second half and started promisingly, with Oliver winning possession on the centre circle and brilliantly spraying a pass out wide to Oscar, who took on his marker and unselfishly passed across to Luca who scored with a smart finish. Luca then showed great awareness to chase a high ball down and win his race with the keeper to toe poke it in for his second.

Harry was on hand at the back to clear up any signs of danger which made it a quiet half in the Linnets goal for Rio - who did display great passing out when called upon. Anthony completed the scoring after a good run to mark his hat-trick, netting the rebound after his initial shot was saved.

Goal of the match went to Oscar for his fine free kick. Joint man of the match awarded to Luca for his goals and tracking back and Oliver for his tackling and passing.

Well done to both teams for such a well spirited game.
