Junior Linnets results from weekend commencing 14/09/2013
Under 7s Archers
14/9 v Heath Rangers KO 13:30 Grange School - HDJFL
After going behind after five minutes Linnets pushed hard for an equaliser and had the better chances and most of the possession over the next 10 mins but paging for an equaliser the lads got caught twice in quick succession. Second half saw Archers edge it in chances and playing much better football than Heath Rangers but were unable to convert possession and chances to goals. Five minutes left and Archers conceded again but Linnets never stopped trying to play football. MoM Jake Malem solid in the middle and excellent between the sticks. Well done kids and keep playing your football.
Under 7s Mads
14/9 v Brookvale KO 12:00 Woodside Pitches - HDJFL
Slow start by the lads conceeding a couple of goals early on, but showed great character to pull it back to draw level after they had woken up. Josh scored a cracker to edge in front but a whopping 5 added minuets was too much for the lads as they conceded a last min goal to share the game. Linnets goals from Aaron, Josh and Finley. Great credit to both teams and especially Linnets Mads for their comeback fight.

15/9 v Netherley Woodlane Legion KO 10:30 Caldway Drive Mini C - BVJFL
A slow start by Linnets led to them going a goal behind in the opening few minutes, the boys fought back well, making better and playing as a team. Charlie Fisher went close with a great solo run and with Leighton, Archie and Lucas playing well together in defence preventing hem going further behind. Some decent play followed and Linnets were unlucky not to be level before half time. Linnets started brightly in the second half and scored two near identical goals in the space of a couple minutes. Two short corners worked between Mason and Nathan ended with Nathan netting twice. Further goals followed from James Walsh and Charlie Fisher and we were now seeing some excellent play in all areas of the pitch by all the boys. MoM went to Mason McIntyre for his assists and effort. Great performance by both teams with the game played in the right spirit.

14/9 v Golborne Sports KO 12:00 Halton Sports – WDJFL
Well a great game of football all round, Linnets 9's playing a very strong side in their opening game of the Warrington league. Linnets had to battle, dig deep and pass their way to a had fought 2-1 win. Goals from Michael Martin and Jack Steele. Every single player was fantastic with MoM being shared by Jack Steel and birthday boy Alfie "Mignolet" Hayes who should get a special mention for pulling off one the best saves ever seen at any level never mind U9s mini soccer in the last minute of the game to keep the score 2-1. Brilliant game to be part of, well done both teams.
15/9 v Whiston Juniors KO 11.30 Arncliffe #2 - MHJFL
A game of very few chances came to life in the last 10 minutes. Looking like the game was heading for a disappointing draw. Linnets stepped up a gear and pressed to try and break the deadlock. The breakthrough came when a pass from midfield found Ethan Hansen free on the right wing. Hansen running at pace found an unmarked Josh Oakes who slotted home from close range. A few moments later MoM Alfie Hayes playing in a defensive role picked the ball up just inside his own half and drove into the visitors half of the field. With one look up he set himself and fired home an unstoppable drive from 25 yards. The game was put beyond the visitors a couple of minutes from time when a Whiston defender put the ball in to his own net A very hard fought 3-0 win.

14/09 v Pavilions Pirates KO 1:30 Halton Sports #4- HDJFL
Linnets started the game very slow and didn’t seem to have gotten out of bed, until a piece of good attacking play and the ball fell to Jorje Orme for a clinical strike into the bottom left hand corner. Pavillions deservedly got themselves back into the game moments later after poor communication by the defence. Linnets lead the game 2-1 at half time. 2nd half came and Linnets showed some good movement and pressure. Unfortunately once again Pavillions split the defence and equalised to make the score 2-2. Linnets then had to dig deep and were very unlucky not to reply straight away. Hardworking Jorge Dwyer got the vital strike and the 3 points for Linnets 3-2 victory. Not one of the best performances from the boys but a deserved win in the end. MoM went to hard working Jorje Orme.
15/09 v Woolton Wasps KO 11.15 Heron Eccles #2 - MHJFL
After Saturdays victory the boys were in high spirits and good form entering this game. Unlike the previous day the lads started quickly with some early pressure from Linnets showing some excellent passing and movement off the ball and they were unlucky to not take the lead immediately. The breakthrough came from a long range effort from Dean Woodward which lobbed the keeper. 1-0 to Linnets. More goals followed as the flood gates opened: Jorge Dwyer (4) and Tom Collins (2) helped Linnets to round off a comfortable victory. MoM went to the goal scoring machine Jorge Dwyer. 6 points from both weekend games, well done to the whole squad.
