Under 7s Archers

28/9 v Pex Hill Puma's KO 12.00 Widnes Rec Mini Pitch 3 – HDJFL

A great performance from Archers this week against a strong physical, well organised Pex Hill side.

Not much between the two by half time with Pex Hill edging it in chances Jack and Joseph stood firm at the back. The second half saw archers up the tempo and with 5 mins gone Thomas burst from midfield only to be hacked down in the area from behind by two players, penalty and up stepped Fin to bury it in the bottom left corner.  The home teams goalie proved to be the busier of the two, but Pex Hill always looked threatening on the counter.  Jake was battling away in midfield breaking up the attacks.  5 mins to go after some good team passing James squared the ball to Isaac who calm as you like placed it in the bottom corner from 10yds out. Last five minutes Pex Hill threw everything they could at Linnets with Thomas having to pull off a number of good saves.  Archers saw out the pressure but it was a hard fought match. Well done lads proud of you again, keep it up, next up Mads 🙂 - You are all playing as a team and for each other, MoM goes to all of you.

Under 7s Mads

28/9 v H.R.B.L 12:00 St Augustine’s – HDJFL

Fantastic performance from Linnets Mads, totally outplaying HRBL in the 1st half and by the final whistle there were two sets of hatricks, one for Josh one for Finley. Defensively the lads are really starting to understand positioning off the ball and are becoming disciplined in both attacking and defensive situations! The lads look a real threat and are getting better with each game, bring on next Saturday’s mini Derby against Archers. MoM  went to Finley. Goals scored by Finley (3) and Josh (3)

Under 8s

29/9 v Huyton Juniors KO 9:30 Caldway Drive Mini C – BVJFL

On a crisp Sunday morning the boys had an early morning kick off and the pitch was in perfect playing condition. Captain for the day was Sam Bignall who celebrated his 8th birthday, the lads played some excellent football and goals from James Walsh, Charlie Fisher and an outstanding 6 man move lead to Bailey Austin getting on the score sheet. The boys are playing some really good stuff and they are listening and following instructions much more so well done boys . MoM went to Liam Hall who helped out his team mates by playing in several different positions. Overall another great day of football for the 8s, well done mini men 🙂

Under 9s

28/9 v Newton Le Willows Comets KO 12:00 Newton Primary – WDJFL

Superb start by Linnets U9s in the first round of the Warrington league cup. Linnets had a brace of chances 1st seen off by the Newton keeper, but we went at the break 1-0 up. Game plan hatched for the second half saw Linnets using the width of the pitch more to open up the battling Newton side and 5 more goals hit the back of the Newton net. Joint MoM was Alfie Hayes who was outstanding in centre mid during the 1st half and Michael Martin out on the left who was cutting in and delivering some great passes. Goal scorers Michael Martin (2),  Ethan Hansen (2), Daniel Lampkin (1) and Andrew law (1). Overall cracking performance well done boys.

29/9 v Woolton Warriors  KO 11.30 Camp Hill Mini #2 – MHJFL

Woolton Warriors 0 Linnets 5. Linnets began the game testing the Woolton goal from the very first minute. Both Josh Oakes and Zak Judge going close to opening the scoring. However it was an audacious long range lob from Alfie Hayes that broke the deadlock. The second came when Zak Judge saw his effort ricochet of the post into the path of Josh Oakes who slotted home from close range. Caine Obrien made it 3 before half time. The second half continued to be dominated by Linnets and that domination resulted in a goal a piece for Josh Oakes and Alfie Hayes to make it 5-0.  The Linnets should of been awarded a penalty in the dying minutes when a strong driving run from Zak Judge saw him being brought down as he set to shoot, the referee waved play on much to Zak’s dismay. The MoM award went to Jack Steele for his all round performance and range of passing. Well done to all the lads.

Under 10s

28/09 v East Leigh JFC KO 10:00 Halton Sports – WDJFL (Cup)

Linnets U10's 1st venture into the Warrington league cup against Eastleigh who are flying high in the Warrington prem and still unbeaten, however they didn’t see the mighty Linnets coming as the were sent them crashing out of the cup with a Linnets 3-2 win. Goals from Joe Last (2) and the winning goal was a combination of a great run and shot from Fenton Gibbons and a slight touch from Rhys, being a true striker Rhys was claiming it but both had a great game so they can share it! Joe Forthsight was awarded MoM, well done lads.

Under 11s

28/09 v Albrights KO 12:00 Dundalk Rd, Widnes – HDJFL

Linnets went into this game on the back of some good results and felt they had a real point to prove against last season’s league champions. Early pressure from Linnets paid off with the boys taking an early lead. Albrights replied moments later due to some poor Linnets defending but Linnets responded after some excellent passing and movement taking the lead again only to concede another sloppy goal 2-2. After the break and a half time talk the lads were raring you to go, but it was Albrights who took the lead 3-2 as Albrights capitalised once again on a mistake. Linnets started to turn on the heat and within minutes were level once again. The lads were the better team on the day and kept their concentration and the pressure on netting a well deserved forth. Tom Smith scored with the last kick of the game to claim all 3 points. Goals scored by: Leon Duckers (2), Tom Collins (2) and Tom Smith (1). MoM was awarded to the whole team for a brilliant “TEAM” performance. Let’s cut out the silly give away goals and push on.

29/09 v Famous Grapes KO 9.45 Heron Eccles – MHJFL

After Saturday’s victory Linnets confidence was high going into the game. The lads were holding a deserved 2-1 at half time against a tough, strong and motivated side. Second half started and due to some poor communications defence allowed Famous Grapes to equalise. The team have been asked to show reaction this season and that’s what they did and the work ethic showed. More goals followed for Linnets and the game ended a comfortable 6-3 score line. Goals scored by double hatrick hero’s Ethan Olubodun (3) and Tom Collins (3). MoM was awarded to hardworking, tricky winger Owen Bygrave.  Great results in both league games this weekend, let’s keep up the hard work. Who are we??

Under 12s

28/09 No Game – HDJFL

 29/09 v Upton JFC KO 14:00 TBC – CDJFL

Lost for the 1st time tis season to a strong Upton JFC side.

Under 14s

29/09 v Woolton Tigers KO 11.15 Arncliffe #1 – MHJFL

Linnets 2 v 5 Woolton Tigers. A very slow start by Linnets in the 1st half, under pressure from the KO by the opposition. 3-0 down after 25mins, Linnets team confidence crumbled and went in 5-0 down at H/T. The H/T hairdryer treatment from both coaches seemed to get a response. Second half was dominated by Linnets, creating lots of chances and finally got one back through sheer determination from Jack Martin. Followed by a second after a good finish by Jack Samuel. Unfortunately Linnets didn't have enough firepower to break even after controlling the game throughout the but once again a tale of 2 halves.  MoM was Jack Martin for setting a good example of never quitting and getting Linnets back into the game with a fantastic effort. More aggression and fight needed from the off boys!

Under 15s

28/09 v Penlake Juniors KO 12:00 The Beeches, St Helens – HDJFL

Penlake 3 - 4 Linnets. What a cracker game the neutrals this was, Linnets leading 2 – 0 then 3 - 2 down showing strength and character to go on to win the game 4 - 3. Lewis Gannon grabbed a hat-trick, his third was a special finish as it won the game for the team. Deklan hit an 80 yard pass, well it was 40 yards up and 40 yards long, known as a 'hit and hope'  when the Manager used to play! The keeper dropped the ball giving Lewis a tap in and earned us the win. Adam Galvin also got on the score sheet. MoM Scott.

29/09 v Vauxhall Motors Juniors – Cheshire Cup

Vauxhall Motors 3 -1 Linnets. Well done to all the lads today after a tough game on Saturday we went there with an under strength side and only 13 players to choose from. We took the lead with a great solo effort from Dan, this  stunned Vauxhalls and only our own errors gave them a 2-1 lead. Two injuries and no subs the lads were all on empty in the second half and Vauxhalls too advantage and grabbed a third with a great header. As a manager I can only praise all the team for their efforts over the weekend. MoM Dan

Under 16s

28/9 v Chester Nomads KO 10:30 Halton Sports – EPJFL

Beat a very strong Chester Nomads team who were holding onto an unbeaten 2 year record  and the current Cheshire Cup holders. A very competitive game saw us run out worthy 2-1 winners. Jordan Cobley with his first for the club on his competitive debut and the ever impressive Matty HJ. Joint MoM of Alex Johnson and Tom Hill which was made all the more impressive after the passing away of his Nan in the week. Well done boys very proud gaffer.
