U9 Yellows
Match report v Ashton park reds
First real cold day of the year
The lads started really well, midfield of James, tom and josh connecting well to set up tom with a cool finish for the opener . Minutes later we conceded a penalty and the scores were level. Not to be deterred the lads dug in and passed the ball around well, chances fell to both teams with Alex making two very good saves to keep the score level. Half time approaching and we took the lead through Jack, a well worked goal with fin and tom playing a one two then fin slotting jack in to finish beyond the advancing keeper before half time
The game was great to watch with the quality of football on display a very high standard. Chances fell at both ends but both keepers stood strong with Alex making another two or three goods saves to maintain our lead. Another well worked goal soon followed as the ball was moved quickly through midfield to find Stan on the edge of the area, his first touch took it away from the defender then he drilled home low into the bottom corner.
Credit to the opposition who did not give up and made a real effort to get back into the game. The lads have battled well and dug in this year when they needed to and the next five minutes Jake and Joseph in defence holding firm to keep the opposition at bay. Still we created chances yet there keeper kept us at bay with a number of fine saves, Jack busy as ever up front won a free kick, up steps James, right in the top corner. Not to be petered the opp fought back and grabbed another to set up a tense final five minutes. Stan, Joseph and Jake all battled well, distribution from defence was excellent, Joseph played a ball played through to josh who showed great determination not to give up and score from a tight angle with 2 minutes left
Great performance again from everyone, sharing the goals around the team as has been the case this year. We are really fortunate to have such a great bunch of lads who play for each other
MOM Alex kept us in it
Under 12's Blue
Runcorn Linnets under 12s Sunday Blue team recorded their first away win in the Chester and District JFL top flight on Sunday with a thoroughly deserved 3-1 success at Newton Athletic Reds. The Yellows boast a 100 per cent record at home but have found life on the road much more testing. But there was never any doubt that they would break their away day duck after striker Daniel Lampkin opened the scoring with a smart finish from Sean Gaskell's through ball early in the first half. The Yellows went on to dominate proceedings on a bitterly cold day with every player running their blood to water and some great football on show to warm the hearts of the frostbit parents watching from the sidelines. Newton actually equalised midway through the first half when a mishit clearance fell perfectly for the home side's striker to stab the ball home. Linnets were soon back in front as Gaskell arrowed a stunning strike into the top corner of Newton's net from outside the box. After the break the three points were secured when Lampkin showed immense determination to win possession, force his way through the last line of Newton's defence and blast a shot into the far corner of the goal. The Yellows had numerous other chances to add gloss to the victory but a mixture of good goalkeeping and narrow misses kept Newton's pride intact. Gaskell, who could have scored a hat-trick in the second stanza, shared Linnets' man of the match award with ever-improving defender Will Harrison and goalkeeper Harvey Batters.
That trio and all of their teammates did their management team proud.
