Another good game of football against a much improved Kingsthorne side. The Linnets boys played really well and one goal separated the teams, Leighton 'The Goal Machine' Stanley fired home superbly from the penalty spot. Special mentions to Liam Hall and Charlie Fisher for sharing the goalkeeping duties. Well done to James Walsh for some lovely passing football . MoM went to Sam Bignall for a fantastic defensive display. Excellent stuff again from the U7s well done boys

02/03/13 U10's v Pavilions Pirates KO 1.30 Stockham - HDJFL

A 3-0 win for the 10s against an ever improving Pavilions Pirates saw Linnets control most of the play and having the lion share of the chances in both halves. A cracking 1st 'team' goal starting off with the ball out on the right wing, switched through the middle out to the left wing then a perfect cross which resulted in stand in striker Tom Edwards meeting the ball on the run thumping a bullet header into the net. A scrappy two further goals rewarded Linnets pressure with all 3 points. MoM for the 2nd week running Owen Bygrave, for some brilliant wing and defensive play.

03/03/13 U10's v Old Xavs Pumas KO 10.30 Heron Eccles P2 - M&HJFL

The Sunday squad notched up back to back wins in the Merseyside & Halewood with a 1-0 away victory over Old Xavs Pumas. A cracking take from Tom Collins on the edge of the area made space for a shot which was parried by the keeper and sniffer Ben Hough slammed home the loose ball from just inside the area. Linnets had to work hard for their 3 points in the 2nd half as Pumas came out all guns blazing. Defenders Niall Roberts, Luke Hayes and keeper Aaron Brennan keeping the score at 1-0. MoM Niall Roberts for an outstanding no nonsense, gritty performance at the back.

Great spirit shown by the under 12's as they all entered the pitch yelling encouraging shouts to each other. The game was scrappy at times but the bulk of the match showed Linnets at their best. Screaming goals by Captain Louis Nickson and a fabulous header from Liam Green on his debut gave Linnets a 2-1 win! Men of match were Louis Nickson and Liam Green.

Under 13s

02/03/13 U13's v Tricorn Hotel Reds KO 12:00 Haddocks Wood - U13s Cup HDJFL

Tricorn Reds 1-1 Linnets. Linnets took the lead very early on with a Liam Stevenson cool finish. Linnets kept pushing for a 2nd with numerous good chances however a soft penalty decision awarded to Tricorn levelled the game. Second half Tricorn dominated with a few threatening chances but ending 1-1 after a very tense last few minutes, both teams having chances to snatch the win. Extra time was dominated by Linnets, now playing their football but both teams nerves restricting the game to a handful of clear chances. The game ended 1-1 with penalties to decide the tie. After 3 pens each it was 1-1, then a few nervy penalties leaving Linnets in a position of needing to score the 5th. Up steps Kizza Lomax to equalise. 2-2 after 5 pens each. Tricorn miss the 6th, then upsteps Joe Turner the Linnets regular GK, he blasts his pen in the top right corner to take Linnets to the Final. A fantastic achievement from the newly formed Saturday squad, now facing a strong Hale side in the Final. MOM - Kizza Lomax for a superb performance for the full 90 mins and stepping up and showing real character on the all important 5th penalty.

03/03/13 U13's v Matthiola KO 9:45 Little Heath - MHJFL

Sunday - Matthiola 4-1 Linnets. Linnets 3-0 down at halftime to a very strong Warrington all star team, Linnets certainly competing but showing the opposition too much respect on the ball. Second half Linnets showed far more composure and pressured Matthiola into mistakes consistently. Connor Spencer getting his first goal of the season with a cracking header from a corner. Linnets the stronger football team second half, however tired legs showing after a tough cup tie 24hrs before for 7 of the players and restricted to 1 sub yet again! Matthiola got another goal via a deflection but credit to Linnets fight back in second half. First half Linnets lack of belief costing them a result, but second half proving Linnets can not only challenge with the best in the M&H league but even beat them. Matthiola certainly the best opposition we have played this season. MoM - Kieran Parry, an outstanding performer all season, showing the consistency a true centre back needs. Solid in the tackle, cool on the ball and positionally superb on the day.

Under 14s

Pex-hill 3 - 4 linnets. In what can only be described as an outstanding performance from all the team as a below strength Linnets took on Pex Hill with only ten men, Linnets were in no mood to mess about and from there first attack new signing John bulleted a header in giving the keeper no chance, John was to get his second not long after with a cool finish, a third was added by Dan. 3-0 up and two mistakes let Pex Hill back in the game. The second half Linnets struck first again after a blatant penalty shout saw the ref play on for Aero to finish from close range. Pex Hill were to get a third and make the last ten minutes nervy. All players were out on their feet by the end but a valuable three points were picked up. MoM John Brown. Cracking game lads the hard work paid off. Ste
