SCORES ON THE DOORS!

U7Yellow      Linnets yellows met Linnets blues in the under 7's Derby on Saturday afternoon. A much improved blues team started the brightest with lots of pressing and closing down but rarely troubled the yellows goal. Yellows picked up the tempo and notched the only goal in the first half thanks to a cheeky dink by Cooper Norton. Blues continued to press and deservedly levelled after the break. Yellows added to more scores shortly after from Oscar Burns and Callum kerswell. However blues refused to throw in the towel and where back within one score until Callum kerswell added a fourth for the yellows from a well worked corner. Fantastic match played in the correct spirit. Yellow mom goes to Cooper Norton for a tireless display. Our mom for the blues was the whole team who all worked their socks off.

U7Blue          Another huge test, in fact the biggest test, against a linnets yellow team that are unbeaten, talented and who normally defeat teams with consummate ease. Today however, was not one of those days.  Linnets blue predictably flew out of the blocks and set an incredible pace, offering the gifted yellows no time to string any passages of play together. James Routledge led from the front, with boundless energy and commitment, a constant irritation to the opposition players. Frankie Gilbert was a colossus in midfield. Ghosting around the field like a boy possessed, he was essentially "dash" from the incredibles! Vinny Farrington was part of a two man defensive wall with Skipper Sam Dimelow. What these guys lack in size they more than make up for with heart, you could hear the 50/50s from across the park. Such was the commitment of linnet’s blues defensive duo. The always improving keeper Kai cairns commanded his box and goal, with some great distribution and footwork being the icing on his sizeable footballing cake!!  An impossibly good turn and shot from James Routledge led to an outstanding and deserved opening goal for the blues! James' hunger and desire earned him that goal. Topped off with an almost full length run from man of the match Frankie Gilbert. Under pressure from the yellows defence he used his pace to breakaway maintaining control on a difficult surface then BANG!! He put his foot through the ball and it sailed past the keeper before he could even react........unbelievable Jeff!! No superlative can do it justice. Overall, this was a great game played in the right way and with great spirit. Both sets of coaches along with their respective lines can take massive credit for creating an atmosphere befitting of the game itself. Blues progression is obvious and without doubt. Bring on the next match!!

U8Mads         The Mads were not only without 2 players( Aaron & Ethan)  they without a manager this week  so step up Ste Chaney from the Archers to steer the helm, unfortunately with no ref also, Ste took the match, Pex Hill are always a force to be reckoned with and this week’s game was no different a very windy day both teams had difficulty in controlling the ball , some good saves from Lennon , Finn scored a lovely 1-2 from Freddie and Connor got himself on the score sheet Josh played first half and was subbed for Brad who as always was 100 per cent   Mom Brad .

U9Green            Linnets U9’s went off against Brookvale Spartax which was a real end to end game that brought out the best from both defences and  with the goalkeepers pulling off save after save. It was such a great performance that the whole team got MOM as the coaches couldn’t decide. Some of the players need a mention though.  George Marshall had a great 2nd half down the left wing after in his own words “I can’t play left wing” before the start, George being one of the smallest went toe to toe with their big defender and not once ducked a challenge. Mikey once again put in a real captains performance like his hero Gerrard, just need to work on that shouting now.  TJ was ducking in and out of players like they were stood still. Harvey, Josh and Jacob controlled the back line and there was no mistakes this time from them, kept tight and never gave the opposition any room to move.  Curtis pulled off some great saves and learnt from last week with his coming out to clear the ball, just need him to grow like his dad and the boy with be unbeatable. After going missing during last week’s game Bailey was up for it today, he was everywhere on that pitch, I kept having to remind him he was playing striker as he kept ending up in defence helping his teammates out, he really did earn his new number for the summer league.  Archie, Daniel, Milique and Luis all played their part and got stuck in when they came on. The boys are looking really good and will only improve with time.

U10H&D              Runcorn Linnets v Runcorn Town.  A derby match that didn't disappoint anyone. Linnets started solid in the first half causing frustration to the town boys who struggled to get past the defensive wall of Harlee and Nathan, who were outstanding and played some great switching football to start counter attacks from the back line. In the second half we came out more searching for goals with wave after wave of attacking football. Largely orchestrated by Josh McDonald and the wingers. The dead lock was broke from a great cross from Ollie Butler that met a powerful header at the front post from Lewis Thomson. Shortly after Ollie scored our second and is becoming a regular on the score sheet. Mekhi continues to impress and has a great football brain and was unlucky not to score on the day as was Lewis Owen. Runcorn Town keeper on the day was outstanding and it could have been many more goals had it not been for him. MOM on the day went to an impressive Josh McDonald. Well done lads 🙂

U10FU                  A good start by the futsal boys, playing with a fast counterattacking game plan. 2 clear chances early on denied once by a great save by the Halewood keeper from a great effort by Jack Cresswell, also Josh Crockett went close early on. Linnets were clearly on top, creating chances from long range, and pressuring Halewood strongly. Halewood broke the deadlock, a close range finish from a quickly taken free kick beating the Linnets defence. Linnets felt the pressure however stood strong with Finley and Harvey in solid inspirational form in defence. Halewood shortly before halftime sprung a counterattack, and scored a second with a tap in, a fast move finished well be could have been avoided.  Second half Linnets once again showed the better football pressing Halewood into their own half, Linnets peppering the Halewood goal earning countless corners from great defensive blocks and an in form keeper. Finally Josh Crockett broke the deadlock with a superb long range strike. Liam Lowe and Josh causing mayhem down the wings, with a creative Brad Lucass and Harvey also in good form in the midfield. There were signs of Callum returning to form with some nice passes and excellent footwork helping the team in the wide areas. Also covering defenders well throughout. Linnets attacking style was building momentum but Halewood stood strong and had a few break away attacks only to be foiled by the mighty Alex in goal, and great efforts from Finn and Cresswells persistence to keep Halewood at bay. Emlyn also lead the forward line well in his performance with some nice link up play, great to see him back after a few weeks away.  Time finally ran out and through a solid defensive performance Halewood survived and earned their win by holding on tight to their close lead. Linnets showed great efforts in awful weather, and persistence was commendable, staying positive until the final whistle. A little luck and the results will start coming good once again. MOM - birthday boy Harvey Loughran Tan. Easily his best performance in the Linnets Yellow /green, showing superb team ethic, true quality and leadership by example. An emerging star for Linnets Futsal.
