Under 12's Blue

Runcorn Linnets' under 12s Sunday Blue team pulled off a stunning comeback win at highly-rated Christleton to leapfrog them at the top of their group.

The Yellows were 2-0 down in the thrilling Chester and District Junior Football League Cup clash.

But second half goals from Alfie Hayes, skipper Luke Smith and Callum Turrell gave the hard working Linnets a deserved victory and took their record in the cup to three wins from four games.

Christleton won the corresponding fixture 4-1 and looked set to complete the double over Linnets when they opened up a two-goal cushion by half-time.

Their first goal was a walk in after rounding goalkeeper Harvey Batters and the second was a smart header from a well flighted free kick.

The half-time scoreline was cruel on Linnets, who matched Christleton in general play in the first half but had no luck in front of goal.

That changed early in the second stanza as slick skill on the edge of the box from Isaac Evans put Alfie in position to hammer a shot into the bottom corner of Christleton's net.

The goal gave Linnets a boost in confidence and they went on to dominate the second half.

Luke, who put in a domineering display at the heart of Linnets' defence and thoroughly deserved his man of the match award, equalised with a well placed header that hit the far post and trickled over the goal line.

And the comeback was complete when Callum flashed a sensational strike into the top corner following concerted pressure on the edge of Christleton's box.

Linnets created a stack of other goalscoring opportunities in what was undoubtedly their best performance on the road all season.

Every player was a credit to the club and hopes remain high of the Yellows challenging for silverware in what is their debut season.
