17/11/13 v Athletico Woolton KO 9.30 Caldway Drive – Reggie Smith Cup Rnd 1

A 9-2 Victory in the cup. On a perfect playing surface the boys kicked off and started to play some lovely football . The main reason for the boys playing so well is that they are all listening to the instructions from Scott and Kev. We created lots of chances and hatricks from James Percey , Nathan Mercer and also Liam Hall meant the boys ran out worthy winners. Special mentions for Leighton Stanley and Archie Nolan who were very composed in defence and also big mention to Mason McIntyre who had a hand in setting up some of the goals. Happy Birthday to Charlie Fisher-Price who celebrated his 8th birthday last week and put in a tremendous performance in midfield. MoM went to Liam Hall who showed when he puts his mind to it he is a great player so well done Liam.

16/11/13 v Golbourne Wanderers KO 10.30 Golbourne Sports Club – WDJFL

Top of the table clash which was always going to be a tough game, made tougher when the Linnets  goalkeeper missed the first half after being stuck on the motorway. Linnets knew the were playing a very good Golborne side as they were made to pay. Dropping 2 goals behind in first 10 mins. Linnets via Alfie Hayes got a goal back but Golborne netted again keeping the 2 goal lead going into half time. After a half time pep talk the lads knew that the game was in no way over. They battled and played to the best of their ability, only thing missing was some composure in front of goal, until Jack Steele calmly smashed the ball past the keeper. Daniel Lampkin then got on the end of some lovely football to tap the ball in at the far post. Before Bradley Lucas, picked up a pass from Luke Smith in his own half, beat one whilst taking a huge tackle, with a grimace on his face carried on the run, beating two more men before slotting it in on pretty much the final whistle. Linnets had to dig deep this weekend and did so superbly showing yet again what they are made of. Fantastic performances across the field but MoM was Daniel Lampkin, the lad ran his heart out, even when it looked like he had nothing left he would throw in a tackle or beat a man, showing his maturity in supporting his team mates, even when he was off the pitch was fantastic. Another great game against Golborne!

17/11/13 v Huyton Juniors KO 11.30 Jubilee Park – MHJFL

A 3-1 defeat. Linnets deserved to at least share the spoils in this encounter but unfortunately Lady Luck was with the home side. The early stages of the game saw the Huyton having slightly more of the possession and the odd chance on goal. However the game really woke up when the home side had a shot that took a cruel deflection and rocketed into the bottom corner of the Linnets goal. Credit to the boys they responded immediately by pressing for an equaliser. That equaliser came from Robert Martins trusty left foot. All square at the break.  The second half was an equal affair with both teams playing some really attractive football. The epitome of this came from MoM Sean Gaskill and Ethan Hansen.  Unfortunately Lady Luck was with the home side again when a Huyton corner was turned into the Linnets net by one of their own. However there was no luck about Huyton’s third which came shortly after. The goal came from a piece of excellent counter attacking play of which both sets of supporters applauded. Linnets never let their heads go down and  continued to play some great football. Linnets had several opportunities to lessen the deficit and it was the home keeper who was the busiest of the two and had to make some important saves.

A really good performance but just not the result they deserved.

17/11/13 v Whiston Juniors KO 11.15 Arncliffe Centre – HDJFL

Linnets 0-3 Whiston Jnrs - A fixture v’s top of the league Whiston. Very evenly contested match. Whiston taking the lead from a close range tap in after a fantastic run by the brilliant Whiston winger. Linnets played some fantastic football with both teams creating a few good chances. The move of the game was from Linnets, a 9 pass move from defence to forward resulting in a volley flying inches wide by josh Dudley. Whiston scored their second from one of many top quality corners. Second half Linnets creating far more dangerous chances, rattling the cross bar and keeper making 3 great saves. Whiston finished the game earning a late penalty to make it 3-0. A great performance by Linnets, Whiston just having the edge in front of goal. MoM - Matty Parry for a great wing performance and solid defensive display. Great improvement on last season and good signs going into 2nd half of the season.
