Junior results for weekend commencing 16/02/2013

Under 7s

10/02 U7's v TL Tigers Orange - MHJFL

The boys got back in to action with a game against a much improved TL tigers orange side. Not much football was played due to the pitch being really heavy in places. At half time the boys were a goal down and the hair dryer half time team talk worked a treat.  The boys come out flying and the addition of Leighton Stanley on the wing meant we started to dominate the game. A stunning strike from the impressive Nathan Mercer and a cool finish from Bailey Austin meant the boys ran out on top again. MoM went to Bailey Austin for a fine whole hearted performance . Well done little men!

Under 8s

16/02/13 U8's v Palacefields - HDJFL

An important match against a strong Palacefields team. Linnets started the sharpest and went into one up in the first couple minutes with a great finish from Daniel Lampkin. Palacefields were not down though and came on the attack immediately. Producing a phenomenal save by Linnets keeper Josh Senior to somehow keep them out!  This was end to end and a tough battle for both sides, however Palacefields got the goal back they needed to make it 1-1.  Andrew Law finished a great move off in style with a half volley to restore the lead going into the second half. This was always going be difficult playing up hill. Palacefields pressed but Linnets battled on and created chances after chance. A tense game and Palacefields played well but Every Linnets player played out of their skin to keep the score the same. MoM went to three players and in a way is a credit to Palacefields as MoM was all defensive players.  Josh Senior for not only an fantastic first half save, but also some pinpoint kicking that Premiership footballers would be proud of, and a rush of his line near the end with Palacefields 1 on 1 and he cleared.  Second is big Luke Smith,  strong and won everything , throwing himself into some great defensive headers.  Finally Amelia Norton, did not get beat once during the game and oh boy they tried!  Superb performance!! Well done all U8s!

Under 9s

16/02/13 U9's v Beechwood - HDJFL

A 10 – 0 win for the 9s although the kids got an ear bashing for some poor defending at corners. Some great team goals and individual goals scored, Fenton Gibbons opened the scoring after some good play and he bent the ball around the keeper into the far corner of the net, from that moment we just dominated and the goals kept coming,  Ethan Taburn (4), Fenton Gibbons (2), Owen Lunt (2), Joe Last (1) and Bradley Smith (1). MoM was awarded to Bradley Smith, well done boys !

Under 10s

16/02/13 U10's v Heath Rangers Barca - HDJFL

Another well below par performance from the 10s and a 1st half to forget as Barca dominated 1-0, Linnets couldn’t put 2 passes together or get the ball out of their own half. 2nd half the 10s woke up and almost immediately Ben Hough slammed the ball into the Heath net, efforts from Jorge Dwyer, Tom Smith and Ben Hough were all stopped by the Heath keeper who was outstanding. Ben Hough raced through and smashed the ball against the bar but the points were shared 1-1. Two points dropped. MoM was awarded to Tom 'Smudger' Smith

 17/02/13 U10's v Venny Boyz - MHJFL

The difference a day makes! Commitment, hard work, hassle and play our football was the order of the day as Linnets took on high flying Venny Boyz  in the best fixture in the 10s MHJFL. Linnets finished the half well on top and 2-0 up with goals from Ethan Olubodun and Ben Hough. We knew Venny would come back strong and they got one back 2-1, Linnets were pinned in their own half for the last 10 mins but soaked up everything Venny threw at them. The pressure continued and the ref continued to play well into ‘Fergie Time’,  on the 2nd corner deep in ‘injury time’ Linnets conceded the equaliser and the ref blew the whistle for fulltime 2-2 and a point each.  Disappointing result but the ref never put the ball in our net and we’d have taken it at Stockham! Great game of football.

Under 11s

17/02/13 U12's v Groves FC - CDJFL

A 3-5 defeat against a good Groves FC side.

Under 12s

16/02/13 U12's v St Michaels - HDJFL

12s played St Mikes away and were beaten 6 - 2. MoM Brody.

Under 13s

16/02/13 U13's v Wolves - HDJFL

Wolves 0-1 Linnets. Goal from Matty Parry. Cracking team effort with just 11 men, playing the better football throughout. Even down to 10 men through an injury, the lads dug in and held out for last 10 mins. MoM- Rhys Johnson for his solid tackles and defensive work throughout.

 17/02/13 U13's v Mossley Hill - MHJFL

Mossley Hill 4-0 Linnets. A very poor effort in the first half going 4-0 down due to a lack of effort. Second half a solid performance, and restoring some pride with the bare 11 never quitting and creating a few great chances to get back into the game. MoM - Adam Hughes. Only player to really give his all from first whistle to the last whistle. A true star this season!

Under 14s

16/02/13 U14's v Albrights - HDJFL

Albrights 7 - 2 Linnets. Linnets were again knocked out of another cup by a strong Albright team. Having lead twice in the first half with goals from Matty Unsworth and Kyle, Albrights wouldn't give in and full credit must go to their team. 2-2 and in the second half Linnets didn't turn up and got what they deserved as Albrights smashed in five goals without reply. MoM was awarded to Sam.  You get out of the game what you put in lads so you can have no complaints as players you were beaten by a stronger and more committed team, we have some big games ahead so let's put this down to a one off and move on.  Ste.

Salford city 1 Linnets Youth 3. After 2 months with no game it was like we had never been away, all lads giving 100% and Brad Phillips banging in another hat trick. Proud as punch!
