Junior Linnets results from weekend commencing 05/10/2013
Under 7s Mads & Archers
5/10 Linnets Mads v Linnets Archers 12:00 Halton Sports Pitch 7 – HDJFL
A solid first half defensive display all around for the Mads, in an enthroning fast paced game. On the counter Josh scored three great goals by winning 1v1s beating his men well before coolly slotting his chances away. Archers used the ball well but were not able to create many chances. Second half Aaron ran the show, winning the ball at every possible chance. The Archers grew into the game creating much more scoring opportunities. Against the run of play Finley scored to give the Mads a cushion. Archers reacted well pulling two goals back with 10 minutes to give the spectators an exciting end to the game. Connor and Finley at the back were able to keep the Archers at bay and Lennon made some fantastic saves too. Mads were able to see the game out and continue to next week’s game still undefeated.
Well done to both Linnets teams, the team improvement and individually is beginning to really show. Fantastic 1st Linnets U7's derby game.

6/10 v Ash Celtic KO 9:30 Caldway Drive Mini C – BVJFL
Another lovely morning and an early kick off at Caldway Drive. Within 5 minutes of the first half the boys were down by 3 goals and didn't start playing until the second half. A great strike from Bailey Austin gave us hope but time ran out. MoM went to James Walsh who captained the side on his 8 birthday so well done James 🙂

5/10 v Crosfields JFC Denmark KO 11:00 Halton Sports – WDJFL
Again a fantastic passing display by the under 9's knocking ball around with precision and composure. Goals coming from Jack Steele (3) Ethan Hansen (2) Luke Smith, Andrew Law, Daniel Lampkin with a goal each. Whole team named as MoM this week! Hats off and big thanks to Jay Mads and the parents for clearing the pitch before hand to make sure the game was on.
6/10 v Halewood Town KO 9:30 Arncliffe #1 – MHJFL
Halewood Town 2 Runcorn Linnets 1
A lacklustre first half display from Linnets led to the team again beaten by one of the teams above them. Linnets were 2 goals down within 10 minutes and looked totally shell shocked. The physicality of the home team forced Linnets into making too many errors and this accumulated with the first goal for the home team. The first goal was from poor defending from a corner and the second came from a speculative lob that dropped in just underneath the cross bar.
With the coaches looking for a reaction Linnets responded soon after with one of the best team goals scored this season, Gaskill, Hansen and scorer Josh Oakes all contributing.
The second half was all about missed chances. Linnets had several chances to level the score or possibly go on and win the game. Unfortunately the rub of the green just didn't sit with the boys in green and yellow. Hopefully a few lessons learnt when it comes to competing in the more physical games. Josh Oakes received the MoM award for some very intelligent play.

5/10 v Brookvale KO 12:00 Woodside – District Cup
Linnets u10s away to their old Halton rivals Brookvale in the District Cup. On paper the game looked a cracker and it didn’t disappoint. After 15 mins as Linnets were trailing 2 nil , and being out muscled but Linnets got a goal back just before the break , 2-1 half time. After a team talk and 2 changes it paid off immediately with Linnets passing their opposition off the park and smashing in 4 goals to move to the next round with a win 5-2.

6/10 v Venny KO 9.45 Parklands #2 – MHJFL
A 4-3 defeat to the teams old nemesis Venny Boyz. Winning 3-1 at half time Linnets let them back into the game and a Venny goal with the last kick of the match very deep into injury time sealed the points for Venny. MoM went to Joe Gould for an excellent performance in between the sticks.

5/10 v Real Haydock Rangers KO 2.30 Park St, Haydock – HDJFL

6/10 v Stockholm KO 11.15 Little Heath #1 – MHJFL
Stockholm 4-3 Linnets U14. A fantastic first half performance by every single player. Fought hard, and Linnets won the midfield battle, earning quite a few good chances. Goals from Jamie Coakley, a well struck freekick with a wicked bounce beating the keeper, and Jack Martin followed up a great through ball to slot home a second. 2-0 Linnets at HT. Second half a strong Stockholm came at Linnets, and dictated the play but limited to few chances until tired legs showed. A freekick, and long range shots from Stockholm getting them back level, and an unfortunate OG from Sean attempting to head clear put Linnets behind. A 4th well worked goal was the killer blow. 10mins to go Linnets fought back once again, a long range freekick beating the Stockholm GK with a high bounce got Linnets back to 4-3 and 2 good chances at the end to level were almost despatched. A fantastic match between two good footballing teams playing in strong competitive but sporting spirit. MoM was Luca Tron for a superb left back display. Kept Stockholm’s tricky forwards in tow all game.
