27/10/13 v Mersey Phoenix KO 11.30 Thomas Lane – MHJFL
A 3-5 win for the Sunday 9s but the lads were very lethargic in the early stages and were punished for their lethargy when the hosts took the lead. To make matters worse Linnets were forced into an early substitution when Joel Barrow was in involved in a collision with a Phoenix player, this meant Joel taking no more part in the game due to an injury to his ankle (here's to a speedy recovery bud). A few minutes later the introduction of Josh Oakes and new boy Robert Martins almost immediately paid dividends with both players finding the net to put Linnets ahead. However some sloppy play gave the hosts the opportunity to equalise. Linnets looked stunned. They regrouped, pushed forward and Robert Martins scored his second to make it 3-2 before the break.
The second half started brighter for Linnets with the hosts keeper being the busiest of the two, pulling off a string of fine saves to deny Linnets extending their lead. Linnets eventually made it 4-2 when Ethan Hansen drove his shot into the bottom corner. However, again Linnets let the hosts cut the deficit. This led to a response, and the Linnets made sure of the victory when debutant MoM Robert Martins got his third of the day. Overall it wasn't the best performance but the boys worked hard and got the victory. They are showing great determination to grind out results even when they have not been at their best.
Well done!
