Junior Linnets results from weekend commencing 12/10/2013
Under 7s Archers
12/10 v Albright Juniors KO 13:30 Halton Sports – HDJFL
A frantic first half saw Archers go behind from a free kick from far out after edging the early exchanges. This Archers team is made of stern stuff, and after camping out in opposition territory for the remainder of the first half saw us go in at half time to the good. Second half saw good football played by both teams with very little in it, 8 mins gone and Fin picked the ball up in his own half, went on a maze up and slotted coolly home from a tight angle to bag his hatrick.
Credit to Albrights who came straight back at us, but after a Jack inspired performance the defence held strong. In a real end to end game Archers should have seen the game out but with 5 to go the referee gave a penalty, which it hit the bar and was bundled over the line.
Again back to the end to end football which saw Joseph test the keeper with a volley from the half way line, and James could have finished with a hatrick but for a opposition keeper, in the end we held out firm for a well deserved win. Best football match of the season so far guys, nerve jangling yet you daren't take your eyes of it, credit to both teams for the part they played. Lads you continue to impress and develop week in week out Jake, James, Jack, Thomas, fin, Isaac and Joseph you have done us proud again, keep it up! MoM went to Fin.

12/10 v Cromwell Athletic Thunderbolts 10:00 Halton Sports – WDJFL
Passing was the name of the game again for Linnets today, passing and building the ball from the back. Resulting in some fantastic goals from across the park, Michael Martin (2), Josh Senior (2), Daniel Lampkin, Bradley Lucas and Sean Gaskill with a goal a piece. MoM goes to Andrew Law, who kept position fantastic and was a constant thorn in the opposition with some brilliant runs, tricks an turns. Special mention to Cromwell keeper who made a string of unbelievable saves!!
13/10 v Halewood Town Jnrs KO 10:30 Arncliffe #1 – MHJFL
Linnets 6 v Halewood Town Juniors 1
Linnets passing, movement and overall play was instrumental in this mainly one sided victory.
The game started with The Linnets playing possession football, and it wasn't too long before that possession eventually paid dividends with a fantastic strike from Alfie Hayes to open the scoring. However, within a couple of minutes Linnets almost conceded, when, Halewood found themselves threatening the Linnets goal only for Louis Iddon to make a solid save. This was a wakeup call, to which Linnets responded with Alfie Hayes grabbing two more goals to complete his hatrick, with Ethan Hansen making it four before half time.
The second half was all about Linnets controlling the game, and constantly threatening the visitor’s goal. The fifth came from Zak Judge whose celebration was one to savour, and Jack Steele claimed the sixth to complete the victory.
This team has very intelligent players who are not selfish and respect their team mates. Choice for MoM was made much easier; as the players chose the player who they thought deserved MoM. Joel Barrow has got his Mojo back. Well done!!

12/10 v Palacefields KO 12:00 Woodside #3 – HDJFL
Linnets knew from the start that a big performance was needed against a strong, unbeaten Palacefields side. Linnets started the game brightly and got their passing & moving going from the start. The defence was strong as ever and linked up well with all midfielders and attackers. Linnets took the lead after hardworking Ethan went down the right and cut back, beat the defender and delivered the ball, which ricocheted off the last man into the goal.
Linnets increased the lead not long after, with Jorge Dwyer calmly finishing past the oncoming keeper. 2nd half and Palacefields came out fighting but Linnets had also been asked to step up their game and responded with another goal from Tom “Smudger” Smith. Palacefields netted soon after with a well work goal and a great finish. Linnets finished off this hardworking performance with another goal from Jorge Dwyer. Great performance by the whole team and lots of positives, big mention to Jorje Orme for yet another outstanding performance throughout the game. MoM was awarded to Jorge Dwyer.
13/10 v Woolton Vipers KO 9:45 Heron Eccles #2 – MHJFL
After Saturdays win linnets were going into the game with high spirits, they started the game brightly with some good early attacks but everything just seemed to drop nicely into the Woolton keepers hands. This happen all game (England v Poland 73’). Our defence was on top form all game with Joe the cat rarely touching the ball. The breakthrough just never game for Linnets and it was just one of those days! Still lots of positives to take from the game with a clean sheet and a solid defence. The score ending 0-0. MoM was Dean Woodward

12/10 v Runcorn Town KO 12:00 Halton Sports – HDJFL
Runcorn Linnets 3 - 2 Runcorn Town. It was Derby Day at Halton sports and the game didn't disappoint. With Joe 'the goalie' breaking his finger in the warm up but still wanting to play on you could tell how much the game ment to the lads. Both teams were unbeaten before the game it was time to forget who your mates played for and earn the bragging rights in school. Each player had their own individual battles to win if they were going to get anything out of the game. Linnets were to strike first as Deklan split the Town defence with a lovely through ball for Dan and once clear there was only going to be one outcome.1-0 up but Town weren't going down without a fight, they pressed Linnets but the half finished 1-0. Two minutes into the second half linnets were to grab their second of the game as Dan once again found space in behind Towns defence and pulled the ball back for Lewis to slot it home 2-0. With their heads in their hands any other team might have crumbled but Town were given a lifeline as Connor grabbed one back 2 - 1. Then Joe had to come off after damaging his shoulder. Cal put on the gloves but his first job was to pick the ball out of the net as Town struck again.2 – 2. Town were now on top and only a top class save from Cal stopped them taking the lead. With only ten minutes to go Dan was again put through, 1 on 1 with Town's keeper as parents screamed for him to shoot he was the coolest kid on the pitch and slotted home his second and what proved to be the winner. The game ended 3-2. MoM went to Matty but an all round team battle today, well done boys. Credit to Town for pushing us all the way and making it an exciting game of it.
