Another dominating performance with some good build up play and goals from all over the park. 20/10/13 v Old XaveriansJags KO 9.30 Heron Eccles - MHJFL

Old Xavs Jags 3 v Runcorn Linnets 3

Football is made for games like this! Linnets needed to dig deep to claim a draw from the hands of defeat but that does not tell the story of the game.

The game started with Linnets in total control. The passing and overall play was at times a joy to witness. Ethan Hansen was a constant threat down the right and eventually his persistence led to the opening goal. The goal came after Ethan Hansen’s effort was parried by the keeper into the path of Josh Oakes who coolly slotted home for his 11th of the season. However confusion in the Linnets penalty area led to the hosts levelling just before the break.

The second half saw the Jags piling on the pressure and unfortunately Linnets conceded a penalty from which Jags converted. The Jags followed up shortly with a third and it was almost four but for a great block from MoM Louis Iddon in goal. This seemed to give the young Linnets fresh hope.  With 3 minutes left on the clock Louis Iddon sent a long kick up the field which the Jags defence failed to deal with. This led to confusion in the  penalty area and Ethan Hansen was on hand to capitalise by hitting the net.   With just a minute or so left on the clock Linnets pressed Jags back again looking for a equaliser. The equaliser came when Sean Gaskill stole the ball and ran at the home team rearguard, with more or less the last kick of the game he somehow found the bottom corner of the net sending the away supporters into delirium. Every player deserved MoM but Louis got the accolade. Well done, brilliant character and a brilliant, exciting game.

19/10/13 v BPR Lieira KO 1.30 Halton Sports - HDJFL

Linnets went into the game in good form, but knew they were going to be up against a strong BPR side.  Linnets started the game brightly having the first of some good chances in the match, the defence was  on top throughout the game and didn’t put a foot wrong. Linnets took the lead after a dazzling run from Jorge Dwyer and he had the finish to match. 1-0 Linnets. The team dug deep and continued the pressure onto BPR, this paid off as once again Jorge Dwyer stuck to make it 2-0.

Linnets were unlucky not to extend the lead in the second half after a string o chances and playing some really good football. All in all it was a professional team performance, each player had a different job to do and they all did it very well! Big mention to Joe the keeper who and another cracking game in a Linnets shirt and also Caleb who was solid in defence throughout the game. MoM went to outstanding and hardworking winger Owen Bygrave.

20/10/13 v Halewood Town KO 11.15 Heron Eccles - MHJFL

Linnets started the game brightly and had the lead early on after a strike from Owen Bygrave who had carried on from the previous day. This was followed by a strike from Jorge Dwyer to make the score 2-0. Halewood responded though and Linnets knew they had to start working harder, and they did resulting in a fantastic headed goal from Joe McNamee.

Linnets lead 3-1 at half time, they continued to press in the second half and were very unlucky to not of increased their lead early on. Linnets finished the game off with another Jorge Dwyer strike. Jorge just can’t stop scoring at the moment and the game ended 4-1 to Linnets. MoM goes to Joe McNamee after another  fantastic performance in a Linnets shirt.

Another great weekend for the whole team, can’t wait for us to move out of 2nd gear and kick on.  Proud Manager and coaches, still lots to work to do but the team is improving every week and the kids are starting to see their rewards from training. Well done boys!

Linnets 0 - 1 Pavilions.     Linnets crashed out of the cup in the first round to a strong Pavilions side who had to withstand so much pressure in the first half they didn't have a shot on goal. it wasn't till the 50th min Pavilions finally tested the Linnets keeper, their second shot on target ended up in the back of the net. Linnets tried everything but it was going to be' one of them days '. MoM was Lewis.  Well done to Pavilions and good luck in the next round.
